About the Artist

Picture of Jason LucasI have never been formally trained in the photographic arts.  I picked up a Canon Rebel 35mm film camera about 7 years ago and quickly grew to love the shutter button…wait, it’s not just love.  Love is something you can step away from, let go and appreciate for what it is.  This is not love; it is something more personal than that, something only I feel I can understand.  This is not love, it is addiction. I am addicted to the shutter button.  I am powerless in its presence and am in awe of its control.  Sometimes during a binge I will stop for a few breaths, for a few seconds on the path, to take a quick moment to get my bearings or locate my friends and think, “Wow, this is something I cannot stop.  This is something that has complete control over my body.  I love it.”

The shutter button addiction.  I do not control its intensity or when it happens yet I am always ready for it, and am thankful when it hits me hard.  My camera is beside me throughout my day, beckoning if you will, waiting for the right light, the right leaf, rock, or ant or blur, the precise moment when the stars and the moon and the sun surround the Earth in visual, harmonious ecstasy.  It’s just an addiction.

I enjoy a unique relationship with nature but surprisingly at times I wish for a more complicated connection with the photographic work I produce.  The truth is, I make photos of scenes that I think look nice, plain and simple.  Usually the only story behind them is the one you make up in your own mind.  Thank you for taking the time to look.
